Pride and Joy of the Artist

The painting above is almost finished...I just have few things I want to work on and then I will add it to our website sales page. Trooper, a Canadian Horse, was my model for this one. I put a layer of gesso and molding paste down with a pallet knife, then added some texture using patterned materials. I wanted to use natural earth colors and other than that, I did not have any great plans for this piece and I am happy with how it came out. I wanted the spirit of the horse to come through and wanted a quiet, peaceful feel to it. It just so happened that the sun was shining on it this morning and I captured it with my camera...just thought it added another dimension to it. Just keep in mind that the right side of the painting is actually darker than portrayed in the photo because the sunlight was reflecting off the surface a bit. I will be re photographing it after I have 'tweaked' it again.


Buying art online is one thing....but some definitely don't feel comfortable buying it from another country. I can tell you what I know about Canadian Customs and Excise; purchasing art from the USA is easy.

There are NO extra fees (taxes, duty). And as far as I know, the same goes for people in the USA buying art from Canada.

Now...don't quote me on is your responsibility in the end to know you own country's rules and regulations, but I have sold artwork to Australia, China, Netherlands and Britain and as far as I know, there are no extra taxes or duties in those countries for artwork. Remember the recipient is responsible for their country's customs fees, so if in doubt...check first, because it can add a fair amount of cost to your purchase price.

When it comes to packaging the art, I have a perfect track record so far, in all my work has arrived undamaged. I think most artists treat their art like precious cargo and over do it, if anything, in the wrapping and packaging department. I know I do! Remember, our artwork is like a child to us! It is like a living, breathing entity and a part of us that we are willing to let go, to share with you.

I have learned that the largest box that I want to mail is just over 24" x 36". After that, I will not ship the painting stretched on a wooden frame. I will remove it from the frame and roll up the canvas and ship it in a large 'mailing tube'.

Here are some question and answers that you might have when buying art online;

Will the painting look as nice as shown here?

You will receive the painting just as it is described and shown in the photos here. I try to describe and portray the artwork to the best of my ability. The only thing that might be possible is that the tones of the colors would look a little lighter or darker since we all use different monitors and monitor settings (this can be surprisingly different, and if this is the case in the photo...I will state it in the description).

Is it safe to roll the painting?

It is perfectly safe; rolling the canvas doesn’t damage the paint in any way. As long as the canvas is not cut or ripped off, it would be safe. I place of large sheet of paper directly ontop of the painting that is rolled with it.

Large paintings are not ready to hang? Is re stretching a problem?

I ship my larger paintings ‘unstretched‘, because it is too expensive to ship big packages internationally, and it is safer to ship a paintings rolled.

The re stretching process is very easy and you can do it yourself. I will be more than happy to send you re stretching instructions if you require. You can also take it to a frame shop to get it stretched or framed. It is usually inexpensive.

Will I be able to track my item?

Yes. A Canada Post tracking number will be provided and it can be tracked on the Canada Post website. Please keep in mind that the tracking info becomes available usually the next day after the shipment.

Customs Delays?

Yes, there can be delays in shipping due to your country’s customs office. I have had some delays up to 14 days, but this is not the norm. It seems Canada Post has been improving its delivery times and I have been experiencing far less delays in customs.
